Zachary was recently seen by the neurologist, who confirmed the diagnosis of a grade 4 IVH (brain hemorrhage). He was, however, optimistic, based on how well Zach is doing presently. He said that the main thing to watch for is muscle/motor issues on his right side.
He has also recently been evaluated by a physiatrist, special educator, and physical therapists. His cognitive, visual, language and social skills are excellent. He does seem to be lagging in his gross motor skills, and shows signs of muscle stiffness in his upper right arm. Despite this stiffness, he is still able to perform the same tasks with both hands. Apparently, that is a very good sign.
The county has approved him to receive Early Intervention Services. A physical therapist will be coming into the house, probably once a week to work with him.
